How Pregnancy Tests Work
Pregnancy tests detect a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG. Your body begins producing hCG after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus, and levels increase as the pregnancy develops.
Testing too soon after a missed period can result in a negative test even if you are pregnant, because hCG levels may not yet be high enough for detection. During your appointment, a member of our team can discuss timing with you and let you know whether a follow-up test would be recommended.
You will receive your results during your visit and have them reviewed confidentially with you by a member of our team.
After a Positive Result
A positive pregnancy test is an important first step, but it does not provide the full picture. An ultrasound is the next recommended step. It can tell you how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus, and whether it is progressing normally.
Through our partnership with GoLife Mobile Clinic, ultrasounds are available on-site every Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30. Our team can help you schedule that appointment after your test.
